Why Learn Reiki Now?

The day after the U.S. election in 2024, I was out on my usual morning walk when I heard a clear and direct message from Spirit:

“Teach as many people Reiki as possible.”

I kept walking, letting those words echo through me. I know how Reiki has helped me—better sleep, less pain, lower stress levels, deep support while caregiving for my husband through his cancer journey and, ultimately, his passing. Reiki has held me through grief in a way nothing else has.

It’s also helped me trust my body again.
Reiki has strengthened my connection to my gut instincts and inner knowing. That quiet voice of intuition? It’s clearer now. I’ve learned to listen when something feels off—and to trust when something feels aligned.

But this message wasn’t just about me. The need for Reiki has been amplified. My guides are loud and clear.

Everywhere I turn—whether it’s scrolling through the news or just feeling into the collective energy—I see anxiety, fear, division, and simmering anger. Everyone wants to know who’s right, who’s wrong, what’s true, what’s not. The result? An emotional and energetic vortex that leaves people stuck in a state of chronic stress.

And stress, when left unprocessed, settles into the body.
As Dr. Bessel van der Kolk wrote in The Body Keeps the Score:

“Traumatized people chronically feel unsafe inside their bodies: The past is alive in the form of gnawing interior discomfort. Their bodies are constantly bombarded by visceral warning signs, and, in an attempt to control these processes, they often become expert at ignoring their gut feelings and in numbing awareness of what is played out inside. They learn to hide from their selves.”

In my opinion, we’re living in a kind of collective trauma.
Those who can detach from the noise—whether it’s social media, 24/7 news cycles, or the endless swirl of worst-case scenarios—are faring better. But most people are still trying to find that balance: to stay informed without getting swept away.

That’s where Reiki comes in.

Reiki is a gentle, powerful energy healing modality that helps you regulate your nervous system, clear stuck emotional energy, and transmute negativity. Yes, receiving Reiki sessions regularly can be life-changing. (I personally get at least one session a month.)

But learning Reiki and practicing daily self-Reiki—even just 15-20 minutes a day—can change how you meet the world. It helps shift you from tense, overwhelmed, and reactive… to steady, clear, and able to move forward.

It also reconnects you with your body and intuition.
You begin to recognize what your body is really saying—what it needs, what it’s trying to release, what boundaries it’s asking for. You stop overriding your instincts and start honoring your inner wisdom. That’s not just healing. That’s empowerment.

My upcoming Reiki 1 classes are hybrid—offered both in person (in Roanoke, VA) and on Zoom. That means no matter where you live, you can join us.

Take one day to learn a tool you can use for the rest of your life.
