Answering the Call: My Path to Becoming a Reiki Teacher
I’ve been asked many times how I got involved with Reiki. It was a gentle introduction that led to a fast slide into energy healing.
At first, I received energy healing from Reiki students practicing because they were learning the modality. I liked what I experienced enough to start getting regular sessions with the Reiki Master—the person who had taught them Reiki. I can honestly say that I don’t remember what changes I noticed then, but I do know that I went monthly. I always left my sessions with some insight and a sense of calm.
After a year or so of receiving Reiki regularly, I woke up and knew I needed to go see a tarot card reader I knew. I reached out to see if she was working and set an appointment at the local shop. She asked me to shuffle the cards, put the deck on the table, and lay my hands on the deck. She laid her hands on mine and said, “Do you do Reiki?” “Yes”, I replied. “I get Reiki once a month.”
“No, do you DO Reiki? she asked again.
“No”, I said.
“Well, you need to.” It was said in a way that made me know I was getting vital guidance to heed. After the reading, I left and reached out to the person I’d been seeing for Reiki treatments and asked if she could teach me. She was a Reiki Master and said yes. (A Reiki Master has taken all three levels of Reiki and, if they’d like, can teach others.)
So, I went through all three levels of Usui Reiki over many months. I learned Reiki 1 and 2 one-on-one and Reiki 3 with other students. I wanted it all! Reiki 3 completes the training but also allows you to teach. I did not desire to teach Reiki. Instead, I desired to connect with all the levels of energy I was experiencing.
At this point, I was hooked. I felt the benefits of self-practice, and I’d witnessed them when I’d practiced on others to complete the qualifications for Reiki 3.
I started offering Reiki to others. It was slow. It was practicing alongside my other career. Then, a client asked me if I taught Reiki. I promptly answered, “No.” A month or so later, a second client asked me if I taught Reiki, and a more hesitant but clear no came out of my mouth. And, yet again, another client asked if I taught, and I groaned and said, “You are the third person to ask me. I guess I’m being given a sign. I’ll get back to you.”
I started teaching Reiki and took from my experience as a student the things I liked and needed to do differently. Here’s an overview of what I offer now
I teach all three levels of Reiki.
I only teach in groups. Each student has questions that help another learn.
In Reiki 1, I teach about using crystals, which are integral to my practice. This moves what I teach into Energy Healing rather than just Reiki.
Because of technology, I teach hybrid. (In person and on Zoom for the same class.)
There needs to be practice moving from one level of Reiki to the next. (To move from Reiki 1 to Reiki 2, you must do self-Reiki. To move from Reiki 2 to Reiki 3, you need to have practiced on others.)
After Reiki 1 and 2, you receive an energy healing session with me.
I will not teach Reiki 1 and 2 in the same day or weekend. Again, there needs to be time to practice self-Reiki and feel the energy and what it can do before you move on to the next level.
Now, energy healing is my calling and career. The morning after the US election in 2024, I received a strong message from Spirit to teach Reiki to as many people as possible. Love, light, and energy are needed in a world where fear is prevalent. Interested in learning more? Learn More About Reiki
